There will soon be municipal traffic monitoring in Zellingen

Stopping for a moment or even parking in the second row is much more risky for drivers in the Zellingen market. The municipal council decided to start municipal traffic monitoring in cooperation with the company Radar-Wacht. For the next two years, an employee will be on the streets for 20 hours a month and then issue the “Knöllchen” in the town hall.

The company presented the concept of municipal traffic monitoring to the municipal council as early as 2020. Afterwards he decided to vote in favor of one vote at the age of 15 and sought an intermunicipal partnership with Markt Zell. However, the Würzburg district office rejected an agreement on purpose for issuing fines between the municipalities.

Employee gets job in town hall

Therefore Zellingen has now obtained two offers, the one from the company Radar-Wacht with 25 euros per hour for the field and the inside service was significantly cheaper than that of the company ESD Verkehrsdienste, but the contract period is twice as long with 24 months.

As the second mayor Andrea Heßdörfer explained, around three to four hours per month will be required for the creation of the paid warnings. The company’s employees must be provided with a PC workstation in the town hall, an AKDB client program costs around 25 euros per year, the master data set for the Zellingen store just under 16 euros per month and each warning 1.08 euros. In addition, there are the actual printing costs for the notices of 15 or 21 cents each (depending on whether with or without a payment slip) plus postage. The employee not only creates the notices, but is also available as a contact person for angry drivers.

“That can quickly get to 1,000 euros a month or 12,000 euros a year,” said Alfred Günther, the councilor of the costs, and feared that it would not be sustainable in the long term. In the end, he was the only one to vote against it.

Counteracting wildlife parking

“It’s not about profit or cost recovery,” replied Mayor Stefan Wohlfart, but about the educational effect. He knows from a community in the area that its traffic monitoring costs 20,000 euros every year.

“We’ve had the discussion before, because we wanted to counteract wildlife parking,” said councilor Susanne Gehrig. This is now the opportunity for a beginning, more must show the time.

The way with the company Radar-Wacht should be taken, said councilor Werner Küffner, “we have been talking about the monitoring of stationary traffic for two years now”. You won’t see so much in one year, so you could agree to a two-year contract.

Grace period for drivers

In terms of costs, councilor Günther Krönert was amazed at the clear differences between the offers and that no travel costs are charged. Andrea Heßdörfer could only answer that she had asked several times.

Motorists in Zellingen still have a small ridge. The office workstation will probably not be set up until May. Even if there is currently nothing to suggest an introduction to Zellingen, as the name “Radar-Wacht” suggests, the company with its locations in Würzburg and Magdeburg also offers monitoring of flowing traffic (“lightning”) as a service.
