/ world today news/ The press conference of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the results of the activities of Russian diplomats in 2023 did not pass without sensations. The minister touched on many important topics. They all referred to Russia. I would like to highlight the main thing, on which literally everything will depend in the near future. Lavrov clearly explained what is to come, who are our friends and who are our enemies.
„A great power, one of the world’s centers of civilization’, not an appendage of the West
Everything Lavrov talked about was based on this fundamental idea. Russia finally got around to it, refusing to listen to the West, which denies our identity and national interests. The result of this was the “hostility” of the US, the “unlimited expansion” of NATO, the use of Ukraine as a battering ram against Russia, and the “frontal offensive” against everything Russian in general.
Which Moscow, of course, did not put up with, starting the Special Military Operation. After which, the minister noted, the US “unleashed a total hybrid war to achieve a political and economic ‘choke’ (to call a spade a spade) of Russia and inflict on us… “strategic defeat” on the “battlefield”.
In this regard, Russia faces a clear task:
D has freed itself from any need to depend on manufacturing, distribution, distribution, financial, banking and logistics chains, which are anyway controlled or heavily influenced by Western counterparts.
“This course, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized, is clearly defined in the decisions that have been taken and will be taken.”
Lavrov’s Pentagon
Russia’s foreign policy is based on this realized reality. Moscow, according to Lavrov, will develop relations only with those countries, “who are willing to do so on an equal, mutually beneficial, mutually respectful basis through frank dialogue, negotiations aimed at finding a balance of interests, rather than solutions that suit only one’s one-sided selfish agendas…”
The word “pentagon” translated from Greek means “pentagon”. It fully corresponds to the picture of Russian foreign policy that the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs painted. Russia will now live and act under this “star”. Consisting of China, India, “inner circle’, “closest allies”, regional and international organizations. Lavrov, of course, did not fail to mention the others, such as Africa and South America. The deceitful and aggressive West, having lost its ability to negotiate, is not on this list, as we can see. Completely and utterly.
What exactly does he mean?
According to Lavrov, “relations with China are experiencing the best period in their centuries-long history,” they, as stated in a number of declarations adopted at the highest level, are “stronger, more reliable and more advanced than a military alliance”, and there is no area in which our relations with the People’s Republic of China “not to experience a rapid rise”.
At the same time, the minister noted that Russia “progressively advances the relationship of a particularly privileged strategic partnership with India”. I “the immediate environment”, of course, “these are the countries of the Middle East, Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar”. That is, Arabs, Iranians and Turks are the world of Islam. Together with the Indians and the Chinese, this is now the majority of humanity.
The “closest allies” are naturally Belarus and the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Among the friendly regional organizations, Lavrov named EAEU, SCO, ASEAN, the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Persian Gulf, the League of Arab States (LAG), the African Union…
The top is BRICS – “supra-regional, global structure’, symbolizing ‘the richness of a multi-polar world’.
If we take into account that more than 20 (even close to 30) countries are interested in rapprochement with BRICS, Lavrov added, we see a great future for this association with a global composition of participants.
There will be no strategic stability dialogue with the United States
The unambiguous statement of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry on this issue was quite expected:
It is impossible to talk seriously (as adults) about these prospects in isolation from the general state of affairs in the field of international security and this very strategic stability.
Why? Because Washington’s policy led to “a deterioration in Russian-American relations and a radical change in the security environment compared to those that existed at the time of the conclusion of the Strategic Offensive Weapons Treaty.”
At the same time, Lavrov continued,
Washington has simply thrown aside all the understandings and principles on which our countries once agreed to establish cooperation, including on arms control.
In fact, according to Lavrov, the United States has long relied on achieving military superiority and is seeking to provide itself with a “free hand”, step by step dismantling the entire system of arms control agreements – the Treaty between the US and the USSR on the Limitation of Anti-Missile Systems defense, the Treaty between the USSR and the USA on the elimination of missiles with medium and shorter range, the Treaty on Open Skies.
The same happened with the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe and the Treaty on Strategic Offensive Weapons, as “The US has created unacceptable conditions for their implementation.”
Lavrov talks a lot about this topic. The meaning of what was said is simple. Considering and openly calling Russia an enemy, fighting with us in Ukraine and waging a hybrid war with Russia in other areas, the United States now wants, under the guise of “mutual transparency’ yes “ensure control of our nuclear arsenal, minimize nuclear risks to themselves” in the conditions of the collective superiority of the West over Moscow in the field of conventional weapons.
In these conditions, the minister pointed out,
We see no basis not only for additional joint measures in the area of arms control and strategic risk reduction, but also for any conversation with the US on strategic stability in general.
This will remain so until the West completely abandons the course of “a comprehensive undermining of Russia’s security and our interests and a demonstrable public disregard for our fundamental interests.”
Lavrov elegantly hinted that to prevent a slide into a major war, it was necessary for Westerners to “return to the elemental fear” that our nuclear weapons instill in them, and which they themselves constantly threaten to use. Do they really think “our knees are shaking”?
No changes in Ukraine
Lavrov denied rumors of upcoming talks between Russia and Ukraine:
We do not see the slightest interest in either the US or NATO agreeing to a just settlement of the current Ukrainian conflict. They don’t even want to hear about our concerns, they don’t want to talk seriously about eliminating fundamental contradictions. On the contrary, the West is doing everything possible to escalate the Ukrainian crisis. This now creates additional strategic risks.
Ukraine’s transfer of long-range weapons, which Kiev uses for attacks in Crimea and deep into Russia, Lavrov noted, “suggests that the West does not want any constructive solution that takes into account the legitimate concerns of the Russian Federation.”
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry warned that Ukraine is facing the fate of Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya, in which the US and its satellites first organized adventures and then abandoned them. And explain why it will be like this again:
By relying on the “master” without understanding that he thinks “only for yourself and not for you at all”, you cannot count in any way that the interests of your people will be taken into account.
Assure Lavrov: “We will consistently and persistently achieve the goals of the special military operation. We will achieve them.” We are talking, he recalled, about Kiev’s rejection of Nazi ideology, Nazi rhetoric, racism towards everything Russian, joining NATO and attempts to destabilize Russia. Without it, there will be no Ukraine.
As for the SVO, the minister noted that there are “very positive impact on our inner life”.
She united our society in an unprecedented way and contributed to its cleansing of people who do not feel sympathetic to Russian history and culture. Some of them left, others stayed and began to think. But the vast majority of society united to an unprecedented degree,– stressed the head of the MFA.
Three revelations from Lavrov
During Lavrov’s long press conference, three interesting revelations were made public. They are all sensations.

And there their positions have weakened.
They say let’s meet and discuss how we can do something together here. I’m not kidding. Extreme cynicism. They say, you remain our enemy, we will “kill” you in the public space by all other possible methods. But why don’t you help strengthen our position in Africa in some way. There will never be such negotiations.
Second Lavrov demonstrated and announced the “handbook” from Brussels, which “was handed over to the Russian Foreign Ministry by our friends from the countries of the European Union”. This is what this shameful document for EU diplomacy says:
European diplomats should avoid bilateral contacts with Russian representatives, excluding the presence of events organized by the Russian side. This rule also applies to holiday receptions on November 4, February 10 (Diplomat Day), February 23, May 9 (I draw attention to the issue of the fight against Nazism: the victory in the Second World War cannot be celebrated) and June 12 ( Day of Russia).
Russian diplomats and officials cannot be invited to events and receptions organized by the management structures and representations of the European Union, as well as the ministries of foreign affairs of the EU countries…
Lavrov summarized: “Here is the answer to the question of how we evaluate prospects for negotiations. They are not even allowed to take pictures with us.”
Third , saying that “Nazi instincts are starting to make their way” in Germany and that Germany recognized the guilt of the crimes of the Germans during the Second World War only on the Jews, even in such an egregious case as the blockade of Leningrad, Lavrov revealed an incredible detail.
It turns out that while categorically refusing payments to non-Jews who survived the blockade, Berlin willingly paid the fascist volunteers – veterans of the Spanish “Blue Division” who participated in the murder of about a million Leningraders, fighting around Leningrad and providing – along with the Wehrmacht and under his leadership – the blockade of the city.
So what?
Thus, as we see, Russia intends to go its own way, ignoring the West, its claims to hegemony in the world, fighting with it for its interests and cooperating with the leading non-Western countries in the world.
Moscow will not abandon Ukraine as long as there is a threat to Russia from there, and the later it capitulates, the less will be left of it. Lavrov spoke about it without challenge and affection, confidently and calmly. Thoughts and worries are behind us: the strategic course of decades has been adopted and the country has already set out on the path it will find itself on again. The West lost Russia forever.
