There will be no military parades of the National Armed Forces on November 11 and 18

Taking into account the national restrictions related to the spread of Covid-19, the annual military parades of the National Armed Forces scheduled for November 11 and 18 will not take place, the Ministry of Defense informs.

The planned military parade of the National Armed Forces and the units of the Ministry of the Interior on November 11 and the people’s march in honor of the 101st anniversary of the victory of the Latvian Army over the Bermont troops have been canceled.

On November 18, there will be no military parade dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia by the Armed Forces of Latvia and its allies, subordinate institutions of the Ministry of the Interior and Youth Guard units, which traditionally takes place on November 11 in Krastmala, Riga.

“We have had to make this difficult decision in order to ensure the safety of the whole society. The November 18 military parade, in which Latvian and Allied soldiers, land guards, youth guards, firefighters, police and border guards march side by side, is a beautiful tradition, without which it is difficult to imagine the celebration of the anniversary of the proclamation of Latvia’s Independence, ”notes Lieutenant General Leonind.

“Also, the military parade on November 11 in honor of the victory of the Latvian army over the Bermont troops is a cherished tradition, and last year we went on a torchlight procession together with the people, confirming the unity and strength of the spirit of our nation. However, we will take care to preserve the health of the whole society, this year we will celebrate the holiday differently, and we will prove our strength and unity, being together in our bright thoughts. ”
