Mexico City. The Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, maintained that there is a commitment from the federal government that “there will be no impunity” after the death of Father Marcelo Pérez Pérez, who was murdered this day in San Cristóbal de Las Casas, Chiapas. In addition, he expressed solidarity with the Catholic community
“We regret the events in which Father Marcelo Pérez Pérez lost his life. Our solidarity with the Catholic community and the commitment of the @GobiernoMX that there will be no impunity,” said the federal official on social networks.
Likewise, the governor of Chiapas, Rutilio Escandón Cadenas, condemned and regretted the “cowardly murder” and assured that there will be collaboration from all authorities “so that his death does not go unpunished and the guilty face justice.”
According to the diocese of San Cristóbal de las Casas, armed individuals shot and killed the parish priest of the Guadalupe temple this morning while he was in the Cuxtitali neighborhood, located in the east of San Cristóbal, after celebrating a mass.
