It’s been two weeks since Bohemia Energy fell, supplying gas or electricity to almost a million customers in the Czech Republic. Thousands of them are preparing to file a class action lawsuit against the company. They complain that the owner and managers underestimated the situation and were not prepared to raise energy prices. This brought their clients into existential problems. We got the stories of several of them.
Mrs. Hájková lives in a 3 + 1 apartment in Václavice. He will repay the mortgage for another 24 years. Now came the new advance payments for electricity and gas. They are 300 percent higher.
“Originally, I paid 3220 crowns for electricity and gas. They increased it to 10,000. I took a vacation to take care of those things,” she revealed.
In Liberec, 20 kilometers away, dozens of people who are bothered by the same thing are standing in front of the ČEZ branch. “They say don’t let people go crazy, but of course there was panic. People are afraid, it’s a massacre. Christmas will fall, that’s a matter of course. Because it just won’t work,” Ms. Hájková thinks.
The queue is for a few hours. There can only be 15 people inside, and a CEZ employee wants to make waiting for frozen people at least a little easier. “If you want, you can bounce for coffee and come then. So you don’t have to wait in line here, because there can only be 15 people inside. If your ticket expires, don’t worry, we’ll take you,” she offered.
Yet almost no one left. “After two and a half hours, I was done,” said Mrs. Hajkova. It took another half hour inside. “I’m going to take out a loan of 60 thousand so that I have to pay for energy, I have it from my throat and there is no debtor,” Mrs. Hájková planned.
The “holiday” is over. Mrs. Hájková will eventually pay six thousand a month, but she will not miss the calculated October expensive payments. “I’ll have to send 5840 crowns to the innogs for October. Bohemia Energy took 3220 crowns for October. If I don’t have money for that, I’ll take it from the loan. It’s a disaster. I don’t know what to do next. The gifts will probably fall,” she complained.
Another former client of Bohemia Energy stood in line several times. She didn’t make it until closing time. The second time, she did not have all the necessary documents. “I’m here for the third time. I waited here for an hour and inside, where there are 10 chairs, I sat for another hour,” she described.
And an even more bizarre story. A woman in a high stage of pregnancy made energy payments for her 83-year-old grandfather. She left the line straight to the maternity hospital. “I’m here for my grandfather, who is almost lager. In addition, he has moderate dementia. Before I give birth, I have to deal with it,” said Mrs. Koudelová.
Verdict? The whole family will be composed of Grandpa. “If it is a higher amount, it will turn out that way. He would not be able to pay it from retirement. He would have nothing to live on, it would be liquidation. He had 630 crowns for electricity and now he has 4,800 crowns. The gas has not yet arrived, “she concluded.
