There will be less MCU action in cinemas in 2026: Marvel film canceled – Cinema News

Disney has once again updated its release schedule. There were small changes, especially in the area of Marvel films – for example, a previously untitled Marvel film that was originally scheduled for July 24, 2026 was canceled.

Disney’s release schedule is revised at regular intervals. At the beginning of August, it was time again. In addition to minor changes and title adjustments – “Thunderbolts” is now listed as “Thunderbolts*” and the first MCU adventure of the Fantastic Four can now be found in the schedule under the updated title “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” – there were release adjustments, new announcements and postponements. An as-yet-unnamed MCU film that was originally scheduled to hit theaters on July 24, 2026, has been removed from the release schedule.

This means that Disney will only bring three Marvel films to the big screen in 2026 instead of four. In addition to “Avengers 5: Doomsday”, which is scheduled to hit American cinemas on May 1, Marvel currently has two untitled films that are currently scheduled to hit cinemas on February 13 and November 6, 2026.

This decision fits in with the new Marvel direction announced by Disney boss Bob Iger. They want to focus more on the quality of the productions and only bring two to three feature films to the cinema per year. You can find out more about this here:

“Only sequels worth telling”: Bob Iger wants to turn Marvel around

Perhaps this new time frame was created to give Sony an opportunity to release the new Spider-Man film, since Spider-Man is part of the MCU and the production houses don’t want to compete with each other. However, these are only unconfirmed rumors so far.

And only three MCU films are scheduled to be released in 2027. In addition to “Avengers 6: Secret Wars,” which is scheduled to hit U.S. cinemas on May 7, 2027, two other as yet unnamed superhero blockbusters have now been announced for July 23 and November 5, 2027.

“Blade” remains on its release date

It is also interesting that “Blade“ has not been postponed and is therefore still scheduled to start in November 2025. Due to the reported difficulties, there has been intense speculation on the Internet that the latest outing of the feared vampire hunter will have to be postponed once again. Currently, “Blade” is still without a director after Yann Demange left his post and there have also been repeated problems with the script. Of course, it is possible that the release date will be adjusted in the future.

At Disney-Marvel, everything is slowly being put on the Doctor Doom course. In the next few days, we will certainly find out to what extent these changes will affect the release schedule in Germany.
