Already this Saturday, March 27, at 7 pm (Latvian time), Andrejs Osokin’s live concert “Parallels” organized by the American Latvian Association (ALA) will take place, which is included in the ALA 70th anniversary cycle.
Pianist Andrejs Osokins’ solo program will feature piano music from two countries – as a result of the synergy of creative works of Latvian and American composers, secrets hidden in the sounds of music will be revealed to listeners. Andrejs Osokins will have the opportunity to hear unexpected parallels between the development of American piano music in the USA and the 20th century. After the concert, all spectators are invited to take part in a conversation with Andrejs Osokins, ALA Culture Branch Manager Valdis Grinbergs and Secretary General Marisa Gudro, as well as composer Juris Karlson. The conversation will be chaired by musicologist Liene Jakovļeva. “In March last year, during the pandemic, our online concerts gained great popularity, gathering several thousand spectators in the United States and Canada. Spring awakens hope and love in our hearts, so I invite my compatriots in North America and across the ocean to put on a festive dress and enjoy this beautiful event, ”says Valdis Grinberga. The live broadcast will be available on the American Latvian Association’s Facebook account, as well as on the online platform Zoom.
