There will be a screening of the Baltic Sea Documentary Film Forum The news


Riga, Sept. 6, LETA. The film screening of the Baltic Sea Documentary Film Forum organized by the National Film Center will take place from September 7 to September 12, where viewers will have access to two programs – a selection of the latest documentaries at the K.Suns cinema and the forum’s June 25 free online screenings on Films .lv “.

According to Ieva Lange, a representative of the Baltic Sea Documentary Film Forum, this year’s film “Courage” by Belarusian director Alakay Palyan will open the film program at the K.Suns cinema on September 7, which follows three Belarusian Free Theater actors in Belarus at a time. After the film “Latvijas Radio”, the foreign news correspondent Uģis Lībietis will lead the conversation with the film’s director.

Lange said that on September 8, the film program will focus on the 2020 film “Caught in the Net”, which focuses on an experiment that sheds light on sexual abuse of children on the Internet. In the film, three adult but childish actresses create false profiles on social networks, pretending to be 12 years old. Hundreds of male girls are addressed for sexual purposes, manipulated and often blackmailed. After the screening at the cinema “K.Suns” there will be a discussion initiated by psychotherapist Nila Saksa Konstantinov on the topic of the film, in which the head of the organization “Papardes zieds” Iveta Ķelle, psychotherapist Artūrs Utināns and expert of the State Probation Service Sanita Jakuševa will participate.

A spokeswoman for the Baltic Sea Documentary Film Forum pointed out that the cinema program will be complemented by actress Charlotte Gainesburg’s film about her mother – singer and actress Jane Birkin “Charlotte for Jane” or “Jane by Charlotte”. Before the film screening on September 10, introductory remarks will be made by film scientist, head of the National Film Center Dita Rietuma.

Lange pointed out that it will be possible to attend cinema screenings in person by presenting a Covid-19 vaccination or disease certificate with an interoperable square code and an identity document. Pupils, students and seniors are invited to pick up free tickets at the cinema box office in time before the screenings, the ticket price for other spectators is 3 euros.

In honor of the 25th anniversary of the forum, the portal “Filmas.lv” will have the opportunity to watch a program of nine films, which includes film tapes, which were presented at the forum from the end of the 1990s until 2020. Among them will be Jāks Kilmi’s 2009 film “Disco and Atomic War”, Arūna Matelis ‘2005 film “Before Returning to Earth”, Ivars Seleckas’ 1999 film “New Times at the Crossroads”. The film program will also feature films released in recent years, including the 2020 film “On the Opposite Coast”, which tells the story of 19-year-old Hala in Syria, who is joining the Women’s Military Units after escaping forced marriages. The film was recently recommended for the nomination of the best documentary film of 2020 by the European Film Academy, a representative of the Baltic Sea Documentary Film Forum said.

The anniversary film program on the portal “Filmas.lv” will be available to viewers in Latvia free of charge during certain screening times. The films will be shown in the original language with the possibility to choose subtitles in Latvian or English. Viewers will be able to join online sessions no later than half an hour after the start of the session.

Part of the program will also be available to viewers elsewhere in the world. On September 12, viewers outside Latvia will be able to watch the screenings of the films “Before Returning to Earth”, “My Mother” and “New Times in the Crossroads” at 17.30, 19 and 21 according to their time zone. The Baltic Sea Documentary Film Forum is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. One of the founders of the forum, documentary film consultant Tue Stan Miller, who still participates in the forum every year, will receive the Order of the Three Stars in Riga Castle on September 6 at 2.30 pm in recognition of his contribution to the development of cinema in the region.
