There will be a night curfew in Paris and other cities. Failure to do so could result in a fine of CZK 3,600 World

Paris From Saturday, coronavirus will be banned from going out in Paris and several other large French cities. This was announced in a television interview by President Emmanuel Macron. Shortly before his speech, the government stated that it would reintroduce a medical emergency throughout the state from Saturday. It provides the legal framework for the adoption of certain measures, including the curfew.

Speech by President Macron.

“The curfew will last four weeks and we will ask Parliament to extend it until 1 December. Six weeks seems useful to us, “said Macron. People in designated cities will not be able to go out from 21:00 to 06:00. In addition to Paris and its surrounding region, the so-called Ile-de-France, the measure also covers the second largest city of Marseille and its surroundings, Grenoble, Lille, Lyon, Rouen, Saint-Étienne, Toulouse and Montpellier.

According to Macron, the ban on night traffic in these cities will apply, among other things, to restaurants, cinemas and theaters. People will also not be able to visit their friends. Compliance with the restrictions will be checked by the police and in the event of a breach it will impose fines of EUR 135 (approximately CZK 3,680).

In an interview, Macron described the current situation as the “second wave” of the epidemic, which is different from the first, as the SARS-CoV-2 virus is spreading throughout the country. At the same time, however, he emphasized that he and the government had not lost control of the situation. According to Macron, new measures against the spread of coronavirus must be adequate, but a national closure as in the spring would not be such. According to the president, the aim of the announced measures is to keep the economy running.

Shortly before Macron’s speech, the government of Prime Minister Jean Castex announced that, due to the worsening epidemic situation, it would introduce a health emergency from Saturday so that steps could be taken in proportion to the health threat. The current situation is described by a government decree as a “health disaster”.

The government introduced a health emergency due to the covid-19 epidemic as early as March, with the exception of some overseas territories ending on July 10.

In France, which has a population of 67 million, 22,951 people have been infected with coronavirus in the last 24 hours. Another 104 people died of covid-19, bringing the total death toll to over 33,000. According to the French Ministry of Health, there are now more than 9,100 people with coronavirus in hospitals, the highest since June 25.
