There will be a new Stargate in the new Stargate. The creator of the fourth series revealed how it works – Stargate

Brad Wright, the creator and producer of the cult series universe Stargate, spoke about the upcoming sequel, for which he already has a finished script. As with the three previous series from the main line, fans can look forward to a new look and concept of the stargates themselves, which allow interstellar travel.

Each of the previous series offered a specific design – from the classic red and gray design of the gates in the Milky Way, the digital blue style in Atlantis, to the steampunk aesthetic with white braces in the Deep Space series. Perhaps the biggest change should happen this time, as most of the series will take place directly on Earth.

“In the pilot script, I have a brand new stargate that’s built by humans. It spins up incredibly fast and creates a wormhole in no time. I think it’s about time we sped up the process a bit after twenty-five years, don’t you think? … Anyway it’s cool, very cool, at least in the script,” Wright described during the live stream, which was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the premiere of the series Stargate.

Previous versions of stargates have always been built by the Ancients at various stages of history. Since the upcoming series is supposed to take place in Earth’s present (i.e. a time when humans have been using the gates for decades) it makes sense that they have gained enough knowledge to build their own version of the device that works on the same basic principles but can add new features and options.

Wright finished the first version of the script for the new series at the beginning of 2020, right at the time of the onset of the COVID pandemic, which made the entire process of approval and preparation quite complicated. The owner of the rights, the studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), was then bought by Amazon in 2021, which further dragged out the whole process, and Wright himself was beginning to doubt that the series would ever be made.

However, it seems that Amazon is well aware of the power of the Stargate brand and is looking forward to better times, as confirmed by Wright’s recent upbeat tweet: “Happy 25th Anniversary of Stargate! And thank you to everyone writing to MGM and Amazon to bring back Stargate. With amazing fans like you, I have no doubt they will.”
