The official part of this Monday night marked a sharp drop in coronavirus cases in Mar de Plata: 12 new infections were detected and thus there are 333 patients on active treatment.

The number give the city a break after the record of 52 cases on Sunday and the staggered growth of infections during the last two weeks.

The first of the deceased was a 99-year-old woman who was admitted to the Private Community Hospital. She had been transferred from the Namasté nursing home, where nine elderly people have already died since the outbreak began earlier this month.

The second fatal victim was an 82-year-old man who was admitted to the 25 de Mayo Clinic.
He had been transferred from the “De Eve” nursing home, located in Alvarado 1442. “He had a pathological history of chronic cognitive decline and pulmonary thromboembolism,” they explained from the institution.

The elderly man entered the clinic on Friday due to a febrile syndrome and respiratory failure, so he was admitted under the COVID19 protocol. Two days later the swab was positive and the contagion was confirmed.

The first coronavirus death in the city was registered on March 24, when José Bensadón died (71), and the second occurred four days later, when Gustavo Borelli (51) died. They had both arrived from Spain.
The third victim occurred more than two months later: it was on June 1 and her name was Olga Lucero, 88 years old. Meanwhile, on June 7, Gonzalo Céspedes (85) died, who was hospitalized in the Spanish Hospital.

The fifth fatality occurred last Monday, when Dolores Dominga Cappiello (92), an elderly woman who had been transferred in serious condition from the geriatric Namasté died in the Private Community Hospital.
On July 16, the blackest day since the pandemic was declared: four deaths in one day. The victims were three elderly women of 101, 94 and 89 years and a man of 65 who were hospitalized in a delicate state died the same day.

The tenth case occurred on Friday, July 17, and involved a 93-year-old woman who was admitted to the Private Community Hospital.

On Saturday 18, meanwhile, the death of two women, 64 and 80 years old, who were hospitalized at Houssay Hospital, was confirmed, bringing the total to 12.

Yesterday, with the death of three residents of the Námaste home – a 74-year-old man and woman hospitalized in the 25 de Mayo clinic, and another 79 under treatment at the Interzonal Hospital – the number of deaths by Covid-19 rose to 15.

Cases in Coomarpes

Three workers from the Coomarpes company tested positive for coronavirus and there are already four cases registered in this flour factory in the city’s port.

The positive results were released after the company’s managers decided to swab all the staff, given the appearance of a positive case on July 16. On that occasion, and as a preventive measure, the firm ordered the isolation of its supervisor and other plant employees who had been in contact with the worker. The Truckers Union also isolated those who were in contact with flour workers.

In addition to preventive confinement, the company also opted to swab all staff, resulting in three more positive cases.

As pointed out to THE CAPITAL, the referent of the local SOIP, Cristina Ledesma, the workers are waiting for more results. “The shift tomorrow is the only one that is working now, because they have already received the tests. Still more missing. Until the results of the entire shift are in, work is not done, “said the leader.

From the company, they assured through a statement that “all the protocols stipulated for the treatment of this situation were complied with.” They also assured that of the swabs performed so far, 13 were negative.

Maternal Infant

Two nurses who work at the Maternal and Child Hospital “Victorio Tetamanti” tested positive for Covid-19 carried out on July 19, as reported officially from the hospital.

This situation caused that 11 Maternal and Child health workers who have had some contact with these four cases, should be preventively isolated and following the corresponding protocols.
