The quarrel about the criminal complaint from the Governing Mayor Michael Müller (56, SPD) because of a Facebook post – now the city hall boss has personally commented on it for the first time.
It has become clear in the past few days that “there has been no wrongdoing, let alone abuse of office,” said Müller in the House of Representatives on Thursday. He doesn’t regret the ad. “That is something that I am entitled to like every other citizen. And I will continue to do that! “
That was what happened
In April 2019, the governing body filed a complaint against the Facebook user “Karina Fitzi”. She had shared a photo that looked like Müller was inviting all the refugees to Berlin. A fake – in the original picture he was holding up a sign for the cold aid. Under the photo was among other things: “Mayor Müller of #Berlin wants all # boat refugees and thus shows an absolute disinterest in what is going on in the capital. #NiewiederSPD. “
Müller sent the complaint on official letterhead directly to the Chief Public Prosecutor Jörg Raupach. Its employees investigated defamation and obtained a search warrant. On February 20, 2020, five LKA officers came to see “Karina Fitzi” at six o’clock in the morning.
But in October 2020 the regional court ruled: The search was unlawful, the Facebook post was harmless! The opposition was amazed at the speedy processing of the complaint (by Berlin standards) and criticized the house search that resulted from it.
Müller: “No pressure from me”
Müller assured the state parliament: “There was no pressure from me – on the public prosecutor or on the procedure, it is a normal process that was set in motion by the Senate Chancellery and myself.” You have to be careful because words lead to deeds could. “We have seen the worst slander and agitation against individual members of parliament. We have actually experienced violent attacks. “

► Müller does not apologize for illegal house searches
► Berlin’s ruler and his overreacting judiciary
The original photo was taken in the courtyard of the Red City Hall, “where I advertised the cold help. I find that disgusting that such a photo is falsified. When you ask for support for the poorest in our society, ”said Müller. One cannot accept that “the institution governing mayors is attacked or slandered”. He will defend himself against it in the future.
He refused to apologize to “Karina Fitzi” because of the house search, which was later declared illegal. “It’s not about not allowing a different political opinion. There is enough space for that. “
