A 21-year-old young man was violently stabbed at the beginning of the month in the province of Camagüey, an attack that was allegedly motivated by passion.
According to the independent media Cubans around the Worldthe victim was identified as the young Leonardo Díaz Torres, who was the son of a renowned doctor in the municipal seat.
According to the aforementioned media, the incident occurred during the night of February 3, when the young man, originally from the town of Sola, located in the municipality of Sierra de Cubitas, was attacked while he was with some friends.
Witnesses indicated that the aggressor, a 19-year-old young man, stabbed him repeatedly over “a girlfriend issue.” Another indicated that the incident took place quickly, so they did not have time to help him.
“There was no time for anything,” one of the sources told the aforementioned independent media, emphasizing the brutality with which the stab wounds were inflicted.
The young man was the son of the epidemiologist Neorvis Díaz Carcasés, who is considered a highly respected doctor in the community.
The death of the young man generated shock among the residents of Camagüey, who described him as a hard-working, happy and full of life person. In that sense, they have demanded that justice be done, and that the aggressor, who has already been arrested by the National Revolutionary Police (PNR), receive the full weight of the law.
Díaz’s case adds to the wave of insecurity that has been reported for months throughout the Island, where violent crimes have begun to be reported more frequently due to the economic crisis that is plaguing the country.
