“There was no major progress,” say parents of the 43 after meeting with AMLO

Mexico City. The spokesperson for the mothers and fathers of the normalistas, Vidulfo Rosales, expressed his rejection of the report presented by the president on the Ayotzinapa case. They will continue their meeting with Sheinbaum.

At around 2:20 p.m., the parents of the 43 Ayotzinapa students who disappeared in 2014 left the National Palace after the end of the meeting with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Vidulfo Rosales, the families’ lawyer, said in a brief statement that “there was no major progress” and that during the meeting with the head of the Executive they expressed their disagreement with the first report on the case that he gave them at the beginning of July.

He also indicated that they submitted their response to the content of the presidential report and that there will be a next meeting with the president on August 27.

Upon leaving, the parents indicated that they would not make any further statements until the end of the meeting with Claudia Sheinbaum, which will be held at the Mexico City Museum.

The families walked to the museum, amid a throng of journalists and street vendors, accompanied by their legal representatives.

Along the way, Rosales reiterated that it was a “procedural meeting” and indicated that they would report the results of the two meetings at the end of the meeting with the virtual president-elect.

They arrived at the museum around 2:35 p.m., where the majority of the parents of the normalistas entered.
