Marseille coach Andre Villas-Boas was desperate to escape his hellish tenure at the French club, where he is now considered a traitor.
That’s according to French soccer expert Erik Bielderman, who says the former Spurs boss’s position was untenable after a chaotic period in charge.

Andre Villas-Boas was in charge of Marseille since May 2019
In an incredible turn of events, Villas-Boas was fired as Marseille coach after he offered to resign as head coach during an extraordinary press conference on Tuesday.
The 43-year-old revealed that the club defied his requests NOT to sign Celtic star Olivier Ntcham and then publicly offered his resignation.
That turned out to be the final straw for the club’s hierarchy, who rejected his offer to resign and instead terminated his contract.
Speaking to talkSPORT 2, Bielderman revealed that the handwriting had been on the wall for the once charismatic Villas-Boas as his job in Marseille turned into a nightmare.
“The first press conference with Villas-Boas was a dream. He was a good soccer talker and very kind, ”he said.
“But suddenly in the second season everything fell apart. The mood was not there and players like Dimitri Payet showed negative behavior, on and off the field.
A group of Marseille fans stormed the training ground of the club’s Robert Louis-Dreyfus Center last week to stage a protest.
“Then there was a war in the dressing room between players; Villas-Boas lost control «.
Bielderman cited a cold relationship between Villas-Boas and president Jacques-Henri Eyraud as a critical factor in his departure and says the club now plans to sue its former employee.
“Andre-Villas Boas is considered a traitor and someone who does not respect the rules and makes his own regulations at a press conference. It seems that Marseille is going to sue Villas-Boas, ”he explained.
“President Jacques-Henri Eyraud is very aggressive in his words and very aggressive; I would say that it does not respect the tradition of the club.
“He is someone who does not respect the culture of Marseille. He doesn’t like the local way of life and he doesn’t like the local way of thinking.
