FAJAR.CO.ID, MAKASSAR — A number of areas in the city of Makassar were flooded, including residential areas around the toll road at around 15.35 WITA. This was caused by heavy rain that occurred in Makassar City, Sunday, December 3 2023
This rainwater flow also carries waste into the drainage channel. So that puddles occur, rubbish gets stuck in the filter bars before the flood control pump.
This causes water to stagnate in residential areas. As a result, at around 16.58 WITA, water entered residential areas.
Residents affected by this incident protested by closing section 1 of the Makassar toll road to and from the Makassar Soekarno Hatta sea port.
They also tried to dismantle the trash filter grate on the pump house which caused traffic conditions on the toll road to become obstructed, resulting in traffic jams.
President Director of PT Makassar Metro Network, Ismail Malliungan, said that the flooding that occurred in residential areas around the Makassar Toll Road was caused by high intensity rain and the large amount of rubbish in the drainage channels.
In the process of building the Makassar New Port Toll Access Road, revitalization of the drainage system has been carried out by building a pump house to anticipate flooding.
“However, there needs to be collaboration from various parties related to waste management in the area,” he said.
For this reason, said Ismail, to overcome this incident, the toll road management, assisted by the police, has held discussions. Negotiations were carried out with affected residents to resolve this matter.
