Early Thursday morning there was a terrorist attack in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia: there was a strong explosion on an important road connecting the city to the airport, followed by some shots. At least seven people have died and there are 17 injured. The attack was claimed by the Islamist terrorist group al Shabaab: a spokesperson for it he said a Reuters that the target of the attack was a United Nations convoy passing by.
The explosion was strong enough to cause the collapse of the walls of a school – among the injured are some children – and a hospital. It also destroyed some cars parked nearby. Al Shabaab has been carrying out terrorist attacks in Somalia for years, with the aim of overthrowing the government.
