Valencia striker Rafa Mir has just been arrested at his home for alleged sexual assault. The complainant is a 25-year-old woman with whom he allegedly went out partying on Saturday after the match against Villarreal.
After supposedly spending the night at the Mya nightclub, they would have gone to his house, together with a friend of Rafa and a friend of the 21-year-old complainant. When they left there upset and half-naked in broad daylight, it was a neighbour who called 112 and the 25-year-old woman decided to report Rafa.
According to Rafa Mir’s entourage, the sexual encounter was consensual. However, according to Jorge García Badía, there was a violent fight between the young men and the complainants. The journalist tells us exclusively that the events allegedly occurred in the footballer’s swimming pool and the 21-year-old woman has also reported her friend.
His arrest follows that of other footballers, also accused of sexual assault. Dani Alves was one of the most notorious, sentenced to four years and six months in prison. Although the sentence is not yet final, it is known that Alves has returned to his wife, although he has not signed for any other team.
Santi Mina and Rubén Castro are other names that have been associated with sexual crimes, although the latter was acquitted. The former footballer faced eight years in prison, but the case was eventually closed.
The latest to be jailed was Robinho, a former Real Madrid player, for raping a young woman in an Italian nightclub in 2011. Will Rafa Mir join the list of footballers arrested for sexual assault?
