The Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado He stated this Sunday that the electoral schedule for the July 28 presidential elections establishes the substitution of candidates up to ten days before the process, for which he asked his followers for confidence.
«It is not true that they can do whatever they want and impose their terms on us by changing the rules, violating the Constitution. The laws are very clear: we have up to ten days before July 28 to replace the candidate, and the fight is fighting. “Now is when there is time.”he indicated in a video published on X.
Machado asked her followers to maintain confidence that no one will deviate her from the route to reach “clean and free elections, where I will be a presidential candidate or will be Corina Yoris«.
The former deputy, disqualified from holding elected office, gave up the candidacy to the historian Yoris, who also could not be registered by the main anti-Chavista coalition. Unitary Platform Democratic (PUD).
The voting schedule, published by the National Electoral Council (CNE)establishes the substitution of candidates, which is reflected in the electoral ballot, between April 1 and the 20th of that same month.
Subsequently, between April 28 and July 18, substitutions of candidates may be made, without this change being reflected in the voting ballot, always according to the CNE schedule.
Machado insisted that on October 22, when the opposition held a presidential primary in which she was the winner, Venezuelans expressed their desire to “break with an old policy and in favor of change.”
“We gave ourselves a mandate and we are not going to allow it to be betrayed”he added.
Last Tuesday, the PUD reported the provisional registration of Edmund Gonzalez Urrutia, who may be replaced as of next April 1, as long as he does not have any administrative sanction or impediment contemplated by law, and the CNE admits the candidacy that replaces him. EFE (I)
