JAKARTA, KOMPAS.TV – The potential for transmission of a new class of bird flu 2.3.4.4b in Indonesia has prompted the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) to urge the public to be vigilant and always practice Clean and Healthy Behavior (PHBS).
This was revealed by the Director General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health Dr. Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, Saturday (25/2/2023). In addition, Maxi also asked the public to immediately go to a health facility if they experience symptoms of bird flu.
“Immediately go to a health facility if you experience symptoms of bird flu and have a history of contact with risk factors,” said Maxi as quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Health, Saturday (25/2/2023).
“Immediately report to the livestock service if there is a sudden and large number of poultry deaths in their environment,” he continued.
Previously, the government through the Ministry of Health was aware of the Extraordinary Events (KLB) of the new class of bird flu 2.3.4.4b, although currently the risk of infection in humans is still low.
“Currently there are no reports of transmission to humans, but we still have to be vigilant,” said Maxi, as quoted from Ministry of Health official websiteSaturday (25/2).

Director General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, said this was a form of vigilance considering the rapid and consistent mutation of the virus in mammals so that the virus has a zoonotic tendency and has the potential to spread to humans.
This precautionary rule is contained in the Circular of the Director General of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) Number PV.03.01/C/824/2023 concerning Precautions for Avian Flu Extraordinary Events (H5N1) New Klad 2.3.4.4b which was set on 24 February 2023.
Provincial, District/City Health Offices (Dinkes), and heads of Port Health Offices (KKP) throughout Indonesia are asked to coordinate and cooperate with agencies in charge of animal health functions and other related sectors in efforts to prevent and control bird flu in humans.
Health Offices at all levels are also asked to prepare health facilities for the management of suspected cases of bird flu in accordance with established guidelines.
In addition, increase the capacity of the puskesmas laboratory to examine samples from cases with symptoms of suspected bird flu.
The Ministry of Health asked the regions to intensify surveillance activities and the Rapid Action Team (TGC), especially in detecting epidemiological signals in the field.
