The winter season could lead to a rebound in Covid-19 infections as in previous years and for now the state has few vaccines to apply as a booster, said José Medina Amarillas, Baja California’s secretary of health.
He indicated that for “a couple of months” there has been no dose of biological Aztrazenaca in the whole country and it is the vaccine they have used to apply Covid-19 vaccine boosters in people over the age of 18. years old.
“Astrazeneca we don’t have, but Cansino is an option […] we have the last doses of Cansino left, a minimal dose, the few we have left are about to expire, ”the official said.
He added that the latest batch that has come to the agency and which they continue to apply is Cansino, a drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration, the United States government agency (FDA for its acronym in English).
“We are managing this, I have already spoken with the director of Cenaprece […] so that they send us a special batch so that before the winter starts we can apply the booster to the elderly and people at high risk, “he said.
The National Center for Disease Control and Preventive Programs (Cenaprece) is the body of the Ministry of Health, charged with distributing vaccines to all states.
Currently, vaccination efforts focus on second doses for children between 5 and 11 years of age.
“We are immersed in this, it has not been possible to complete it, we are missing just under 40 percent of children aged 5 to 11 to conclude with all the groups,” he said.
Given the possible rebound of Covid in the entity, Medina Amarillas said that, as it was from the vaccination, they do not expect a situation as serious as the beginning of the pandemic.
“What concerns us is that we can continue to maintain the hospital’s ability to care for patients who become infected or infected and we have no fatal consequences,” he added.

The head of the state health secretary pointed out that although some European countries and the United States have declared “the end of the pandemic”, Mexico is unable to say so.
“There are points in our country that could favor new outbreaks and that keep us alert throughout the federation, the pandemic is not over, but there is excellent control,” said Medina Amarillas.
