KONTAN.CO.ID – Legendary investor, and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, Warren Buffett is now 90 years old and still strong as the sixth richest billionaire in the world.

His investment advice is full of wisdom and his life advice is even wiser if you actually apply it.

One of Warren Buffett’s classic pieces of advice may be a great starting point: overcome bad habits that might keep you from reaching your full potential.

Buffett said:

“I see people with this self-destructive pattern of behavior. They are really trapped by the bad behavior.” (I see people with these self-destructive behavior patterns. They really are entrapped by them)

He advised University of Florida graduate students to learn and practice good habits early on before it’s too late.

“You can get rid of it a lot easier at your age than at mine, because most behavior is a habit,” says Buffett.

He goes on to quote the words of the British philosopher Bertrand Russell:

“The chains of habit are too light to feel until they are too heavy to break.” (The chains of habit are too light to be felt until they are too heavy to be broken.)

A bad habit you need to stop

Russell’s words aptly describe the cunning nature of bad personal and business habits. They probably won’t be seen until it’s too late.

For that, here is one bad habit to watch out for which can be self-defeating in the long run.

Not realizing it and doing something to free yourself from it can hold you back: Intellectual arrogance.

The need to show others that you think you are smarter than them is one way to thwart yourself from building strong bonds.

To counter the influence of intellectual pride, the smartest people expand their knowledge openly to absorb the intellectual wisdom of others.
