A baker is looking for employees for her bakery. The candidates are Gen Z applicants who cannot bake and “hate” working.

London – When the notorious Generation Z (Gen Z) is mentioned, emotions run high online: While some celebrate those born between 1995 and 2010 as rebels who no longer put up with anything, others complain that they are lazy and unreliable. Young entrepreneur Amy, who identified herself as a millennial, probably belongs to the latter group after sifting through the applications for a vacant position in her bakery in London.

In a TikTok Videos Amy gave vent to her frustration and revealed what was in the applications and CVs of her potential employees. Her blunt conclusion: “There is nothing as sobering as reading Gen Z applications.” This stunned not only the baker herself, but also her followers. “Is this real?” is one of the questions read in the comments section. To prove the authenticity, she shared screenshots in follow-up videos.

Shockingly honest: London baker is overwhelmed with applications from Gen Z

According to the news portal Focus Amy has posted the job advertisement for her bakery in London on Instagram published. This has since been deleted. “Please send me your CVs and a little information about yourself. The CV should only contain relevant information,” she is quoted as saying. As a result, she received an application from, among others, an enthusiastic Harry Styles fan “with the superpower of being able to get tickets even for sold-out concerts” – at “normal price”.

Another applicant said she had a “brat summer” – according to Amy, a reference to the singer Charli XCX, who looks like her. This application was even surpassed by a shockingly honest woman who admitted that she actually knows nothing about baking, but enjoys cooking with her son. She completely avoided using capital letters. The baker from London was then left in a state of incomprehension.

Applying to be a baker despite lacking the will to work: “Because I’m just a girl”

The tip of the iceberg: A young woman confessed in her application that she hated working, “because I’m just a girl” – a statement that TikTok trendet. This is used, for example, to justify women’s actions and situations with one sentence. A controversy has now arisen because this trend is being misused to spread stereotypical clichés and portray women as incompetent.

In any case, the job-reluctant applicant could extend a hand to the Gen Z influencer who cried after an eight-hour workday. Her whining video, in which she complained about her working hours, went viral at the time.

“My generation has stopped taking the application process seriously”: Reactions to Gen Z applications

Most people in the comments agree that the applications are below the belt. “As part of Gen Z, I apologize for our representatives,” one user wrote humbly. Another found a simple explanation for the unprofessionalism: “My generation stopped taking the application process seriously because in the vast majority of cases, we are not taken seriously.” Amy then admitted that she made a fair point.

By Follow-up video Amy stressed that the applicants were definitely nice people. But this was about her company and she hoped for a minimum level of professionalism. As things stand, the young entrepreneur is currently reading through the 150 applications that have been received. Officially, however, no employee has been hired yet. Despite everything, the baker from London can laugh about it. “I feel so old,” she said at the end of her video. (cln)
