There is no vaccine in sight that protects against flu and covid, according to WHO

Pharmaceutical companies and national health networks continue to investigate a possible combined vaccine that protects against both the flu and covid-19.

But for now there are no plans to implement this type of immunization, an expert linked to the World Health Organization (WHO) highlighted this Friday, February 24.

“As of today we have very effective vaccines against covid and against the flu, and there are manufacturers that examine a combination of both, but for now the vaccination programs focus on two different doses, the expert Kanta stressed at a press conference Subbarao.

The possibility that both vaccines can be applied in a similar period of time and close to the seasons with the highest incidence of respiratory diseases is being considered, added the expert, from the Reference Laboratory for Infectious Diseases of Victoria (Australia), a direct collaborator with The OMS.

Dr. Subbarao and other experts have met throughout this week to issue regular recommendations on the composition of the new flu vaccines, in this case for the 2023-24 season.
