There is no such thing as right or wrong in fashion. # dziedundejo2021 costume collection movie review / Article

In total, the film looks at 12 costume collections in more detail, as the opinions of the experts often coincided. Unfortunately, the other collections are visible only in very short frames, they do not have the name and author of the collection.

The slogan of the organizers in the summer “We want to show the face of each child / participant this holiday” has definitely not come true here, because all the collections were filmed in the summer, but only a few are fully shown.

In a normal world, all the authors of the collection would have met in 2020 to showcase their work, meet, enjoy and learn from each other in a joint fashion show, but now a film has been made highlighting a couple of outstanding cases.

The beginning of the film is more than an instructive guide – experts tell about their experience in studying and working in the industry. Only they are highlighted, their portraits, leaving the collections themselves somewhere deep in the background, in a blurred way. A separate section is dedicated to the sustainable fashion lecture. The story of responsible buying and wearing goods is also told later, so it turns out that the texts are repeated, which in such a short film does not seem really well thought out. If the idea of these # dziedundejo2021 films is to attract a wider audience than the participants’ moms, dads and grandmothers, then the 7-minute introduction seems unforgivably long and boring.

The collections created by young people are exciting, gorgeous, very thoughtful and modern. Young designers think about sustainable fashion, about preserving nature, about modernizing national ornaments, breaking down the boundaries of what is good and what is bad. Small details with unusual materials, strange cuts and a particularly attractive presentation suggest that

this is their heart’s desire and a way to be not only eternal consumers, but to give the world something in return.

This film is definitely not enough to understand the creative thoughts of children and young people. However, the video application with Jānis Holstein-Upmanis and Nancy Garkalne mentions that there are a total of 51 collections and short video greetings will be included, where young people choose their favorites.

The film itself says that there were a total of 50 collections, and I don’t see any video greetings there, anyone. Perhaps such video greetings would have refreshed the overall monotonous speech. And the film’s descriptions mention fashion experts who don’t appear in the film. “Radi, decorate Latvia”, unlike other # dziedundejo2021 films, tries to strive for the documentary film genre, but the final product is a big mix, and you can’t understand for what purpose the film was created. If I wanted to see a documentary about design and fashion, I know where to find one. But if I want to see the latest clothes of young Latvian designers, then I can stay the way I want.
