There is no reason to believe that the availability of medical services for the residents of Jelgava region is at risk

Last week, the Latvian Hospital Association (LSB) in an open letter called on the Ministry of Health (MoH) to intervene in the upcoming decisions of the Jelgava County Council, preventing the sale of ZVC.

LSB points out that the intention of the municipality to change the management and revise it according to the functions agreed to by the municipality is a normal phenomenon, but the association sees risks in this process of deliberate destruction of the industry participant, endangering its reputation, value and importance in the segment of health services provided.

Abu Meri stated that he would give an answer to the LSB, but noted that he has neither the authority nor the tools to interfere in the decisions of Jelgava County Council or any other local government.

The Minister trusts that the leaders and deputies of municipalities, when making decisions about the management of municipal enterprises or joint-stock companies, are aware of their role in providing health services to the residents of their municipality.

“The territory of the Jelgava region has several professional medical institutions, so there is no reason to believe that the availability of services to the residents is at risk,” Abu Meri emphasized.

TVNET already wrote that the head of the municipality Madars Lasmanis (LA) has prepared a draft decision on the dismissal of the executive director Līga Lonertes, citing among other reasons the interference of ZVC “in the performance of the duties of the representative of the holder of capital shares of the municipality, even though she herself has transferred the duties of the representative of the holder of capital shares of the municipality to the Deputy Executive Director of Jelgava Region”.

Currently, according to “Firmas.lv” data, the chairman of the board of “Zemgale health center” is Mārīte Sproģe, and the board member is Gundars Prolis. ZVC is owned by Jelgava county municipality (88.19%) and “PS Kapitalas pravades sistemas” (11.81%). In 2022, the company worked with a turnover of 4.69 million euros and a profit of 0.19 million euros.
