For the first time in There is mail for you, Maria De Filippi brought to the attention of its public a viceda that inevitably winds its way through the jerseys of Islamic culture. The story is that of Vivienne, who got pregnant before getting married, now 12 years ago. According to the religious dictates of his father Etienne, this cannot be forgiveness and not even the long chat with Maria De Filippi, who read the Koran for the occasion, convinced the man to open the envelope and meet his daughter after another 10 years.
The story told in Canale5’s Saturday evening television program showed a facet of the Islamic religion, at times fundamentalist. Different is the attitude of the young woman, who has shown herself more open and less rigid about the rules, so much so that she tries to convince her father in every way to meet her. On the other hand, however, he found a wall of obstinacy and of ingrained beliefs, who have not given up even after the long speech made by the presenter. Years have passed, yet the man has appeared adamant at his daughter’s request.
“For twelve years I have not been able to see you, to call you. I have been waiting for this moment for a long time and I have made many attempts, but it never worked. I know I let you down and that you had other expectations for me. You dreamed that I graduated and then me married. Today I am the mother of three girls, they want to meet you. My heart freezes at the fact that I can’t answer this question“said Vivienne.
Maria De Filippi tried to make the man think, also reading some passages from the Koran. In the holy book of Islam, applied to the letter by many faithful, it is written that for the “sin” committed by Vivienne, the punishment consists of one year of exile or 100 lashes. Leaving aside the second option, and considering the removal of the woman as exile, her guilt should have already been atoned for the dictates of the Koran.
But Etienne appeared adamant, precisely because of his Islamic principles: “I would have forgiven anything, but she had to tell me the truth, she always had to tell me the truth. In any case, I would not have forgiven her, because even if I live in the West, I am certain of it customs and traditions that must be respected and I do not forgive her. I think a girl should respect herself first and then others“.
