There is fierce fighting going on in Soledar. Here are four reasons why the city is important to Putin.

200 kilometers of underground tunnels spread beneath the ground from the small Ukrainian town of Soledar. Therefore, this is the Russians’ new goal.

“A unique realm at a depth of 300 metres. Here you can find animal, tree and human figures made of salt. Welcome to a unique museum and unique halls in Donetsk’s salt mines. This is one of the region’s real tourist magnets!”

This is how the salt mines under the small town of Soledar were marketed before the war. One of the huge halls has also been used for classical concerts. In October 2007, the symphony orchestra from Donetsk played for 350 people underground.
