“We are glad that the idea of a winter skating rink in Vilnius has not only” taken root “, but has also grown. This year we will have a small winter entertainment town here, where those who want to climb the ice themselves and residents looking for alternative recreational areas will find activities, ”says the Deputy Mayor of Vilnius. Valdas Benkunskas.
The skating rink, which has received the name of Vilnius Ice Arena, will operate this season – unlike before – under a roof temporarily built here, as the arena will host sports and cultural events in addition to skating sessions, and such a construction will provide excellent protection against changing weather. There will also be grandstands and an outdoor café in the arena.
“We perceive our task this winter season as the need to take winter entertainment in Vilnius to the next level – the skating rink will be convenient to use in any weather, as it will be under the roof of the outdoor arena, and the arena will be a place for various entertainment, including concerts and other events.” emphasizes Arnas Vosylius, a representative of the Sports House Group.
Free skating sessions are planned at the skating rink, which will run seven days a week. At different times, the arena will be open to schoolchildren and seniors, and in the morning sessions – to all Vilnius residents.
“The time spent on active physical activity during the cold season is naturally shorter, as is the time spent in the fresh air, so we wanted to give the residents additional incentives to play sports. We have focused in particular on those groups of society for whom the strengthening of immunity should be an integral part of their daily lives – school-age children and seniors, but we have not forgotten the rest. And since the idea of open sessions for the arena operators has also turned out to be attractive, the skating rink will definitely be available to everyone, ”the vice mayor noted.
It is planned that the first visitors ice arena will be adopted in late November and will continue throughout the winter. It is expected that if the weather is favorable, the skating rink could be operational until the first weekend in March.
