Four game days are through in college football and once again there has been an abundance of spectacular games, wild upsets and big disappointments. And once again, Alabama is apparently unrivaled at the top of the favorites list. Five theses for the start of the college football season.
College Football: Bryce Young is the clear Heisman favorite
Was this perhaps the best start to college career ever from a quarterback? Probably not, but close. After just four game days, the 20-year-old freshman Bryce Young has become the top favorite for the Heisman Trophy, with a huge lead over all other contenders.
It was known that Bryce Young has an incredible amount of talent. It was not for nothing that he was the top-ranked quarterback of his high school class. But even the biggest Alabama fan probably didn’t expect such a start. Not only did his tender age of 20 hold back expectations, the gross bloodletting of Alabama’s offense towards the NFL in the past two years also raised some question marks.
Young was able to blow away these questions at the start against Miami. The Hurricanes tried to upset him with a variety of lightning bolts, but Young calmly pulled their teeth: 344 yards and 4 touchdowns (3 of them against the lightning bolt) were three quarters behind his name, the best debut ever for an Alabama- QB.
On the third day of the match the next trial by fire, the first real SEC away game in the Florida swamp “The Swamp” against the 11th Gators. And here, too, nothing could upset Young: 240 yards, 3 touchdowns, no turnover. With three touchdown drives in the first quarter, the situation was clear, even if Florida made the game halfway tight again in the second half.
