The rigged elections for the Metropolitan of Sliven by the Holy Synod and the withdrawal of the right for priests and laymen to participate in the election led to a protest in front of the building of the Metropolitanate in Sliven yesterday during the day.
In “The Day Begins”, Father Yevgeny Yanakiev stated that there is “a schism in the Sliven Metropolitanate, because of the long arm of Vulkan Vulkanov”.
“In the election itself was the irregularity. Because a group went outside and talked. Where in the toilet with a cigarette and a cup of coffee, and there they talked,” said Father Yevgeny Yanakiev.

“She has been in our diocese for 40-50 years, and this diocese belongs to the former secretary Vulkan Vulkanov. Yesterday he floated a bogus document that he wrote himself and issued himself from the Dossier Commission. If he has a long arm, it is precisely his, because many years ago he promised Bishop Hierotei to make him metropolitan after Grandpa Niki died,” said Father Evgeny.
The rest of the interlocutors were of the opposite opinion, who do not find any irregularity in the election of the Sliven metropolitan and think that the cashing of the elections is unfair.
“We are here because we think it is unfair to cancel the elections for the Metropolitan of Sliven by the Holy Synod. They decided that there is something wrong, but it is not from those who follow the rules and carry out the election, but from those who set them up,” Father Ivan Georgiev.
“If you are forced to make two elections for two people, from which the Holy Synod chooses one, you also choose the one you prefer, right? I don’t see what and who broke the rules.” Father Ivan Georgiev
“I have no idea what kind of long arm he has, why he has it. The point is that our right to choose, as it was until now, has been violated,” says Father Pavel Georgiev.
There will be no protest today, but they commented that they were offended by the definition of “people’s crowd” and that the deprivation of electoral rights is against the laws of the church, because for 150 years in Sliven Metropolis, voting has been done this way.
