President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) mentioned a number of presidential and vice presidential candidates including Prabowo Subianto, Erick Thohir, to Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) in his remarks at PPP’s 50th Anniversary. There was a name mentioned that Jokowi was not present at the event, who was that figure?
Director of Indonesian Political Parameters (PPI) Adi Prayitno said that name might be Ganjar Pranowo. Adi said that so far the public has seen Jokowi’s support towards the Governor of Central Java.
“First, there is no doubt that Jokowi’s favorite presidential candidate who is not present, the PPP for the public is Ganjar, not the others. So far, the association of political attitudes Jokowi leading to Ganjar even strained relations with PDIP,” Adi told reporters, Saturday (18/2/2023).
At the event Jokowi mentioned the presidential and vice presidential candidates and then greeted the Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto. He also named the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md, Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno, Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir, and Ketum Democrat AHY.
According to Adi, the name that was not present at the event might lead to DPR Chairperson Puan Maharani, Golkar chairman Airlangga Hartarto, and PKB chairman Muhaimin Iskandar. However, Adi believes that the name Jokowi meant was not Anies Baswedan.
“Second, maybe what is meant by Jokowi’s champion candidate who is not present should be PPP leading to Puan, Airlangga, Cak Imin, and others. Because Jokowi really seems to avoid being associated with only one particular presidential candidate. Jokowi seems to want to look elegant, whoever the elite is this country which has the potential to develop will bemention. What is clear is not Anies,” said Adi.
“To be precise, only Jokowi and God know who the presidential candidates will carry later. What is clear is that the names on the inner circle power now,” he added.
Adi assessed that Jokowi already had one name that was championed as a presidential candidate. Mainly, he said, Jokowi’s priority was the presidential candidate from PIDP.
“Even though Jokowi mentions many names of presidential candidates, Jokowi certainly has priority, especially the PDIP presidential candidate. Whatever the title, Jokowi is a PDIP cadre, it must be prioritized. The red eyes can be seen. But the red heart is difficult to predict. From the surface, Jokowi looksendorse there are many figures, but deep down, of course, there is only one name,” said Adi.
