There is a Parallel Planet Phenomenon this week, once every 18 years

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Two or three planets visible in the sky are quite common, but the phenomenon of parallel planets i.e. five planets at once is rare.

Citing the Sea Mashable page, Tuesday (21/6/2022), the five planets of the solar system are said to be ‘reunion’. This rare parallel planet phenomenon will involve the planets Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.

In the mornings throughout June, you can see the planets in the sky from the lower east to higher in the south. This is what astronomers call a conjunction.

What makes this event even more unique is that the planets are visible in their natural order from the Sun. This phenomenon first occurred since last December 2004, according to the magazine Sky & Telescope.

“Planetal conjunctions have traditionally been more astrological material than serious astronomy,” Mitzi Adams, astronomer and NASA researcher said in a blog last month.

“But they never fail to impress during observations, particularly when gas giants are involved.” he added.

The planetary reunion will occur on Friday morning, June 24, with Mercury to be more visible. The peak time to see conjunctions is after dawn and will last about an hour before sunlight sweeps across the sky.

“But the real bonus is the waning crescent moon positioned between Venus and Mars,” the magazine said in a statement.

Expert Skywatching recommends looking at the southeastern sky every morning from today and Friday if the forecast is cloudy for the day.

In the next few months, the planets will appear to be spreading farther apart each morning. In September, Venus and Saturn will be off course.
