There is a new problem, the hotel and restaurant business is increasingly ‘crying blood’

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The hotel sector entrepreneurs admitted that they objected to the Government’s plan to implement the Clean, Health, Safety, Environment (CHSE) certification.

The chairman of the BPD (Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association) PHRI Jakarta, Sutrisno Iwantono, assessed that the certification was very difficult for the business world, which is currently already carrying a lot of burdens.

“Last Friday there was a meeting, the contents of which required CHSE certificates for hotels and restaurants. Of course we understand this is very important as a form of concern for consumers, but if it is later proposed it will burden the middle to lower tourist group friends,” he said at a press conference, Monday (27/9/21).

The CHSE discourse was ejected through the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) as the parent of tourism. The hotel as one of the elements in it is planned to be involved.

Previously, the Government had given CHSE certification at the beginning for free. However, there is a discourse that the certification will be carried out independently, aka no longer free. Obviously it’s burdensome because it costs tens of millions.

“In the future, we want to be independent, we want to be required to be independent. That is what weighs us down. APBN funds will also be more effective if they are to support the tourism sector,” concluded Sutrisno.

In the midst of these difficulties, the potential cost of certification is also very large. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), there are 29,243 star and non-star hotels, when multiplied by Rp. 10 million per certification fee, it is a significant amount.

“Moreover, if you add the restaurant, the restaurant is almost 118.069, or if the cost is Rp. 8 million, it could be more than Rp. 944 billion,” said Iwantono.

So, CHSE certification is no longer needed. Moreover, so far the hotel sector has implemented strict health protocols, both from the process of entering the hotel area to visitors entering each room.

Health Protocols applied to the Hotel and Restaurant sector have been implemented well, even Hotels and Restaurants are the sector that is most prepared to implement the program,” he said.
