Oksana Zakarauskaitė-Paplauskienė, a youth worker, started working in the Open Youth Space at the Butrimonii Gymnasium. Until now, the youth of Butrimoniai and high school students used to gather in the space. Now the space is open to all young people of Alytus district.
“My vision and mission is to attract as many young people as possible, to teach them not only how to run, but also how to eat healthy and engage in sports activities. We have a lot of equipment for that here,” says Oksana.
In the space, young people can do sports, play board games, billiards, table tennis, table football, play music or even shoot archery. In case of favorable weather, conditions have been created to organize activities outdoors, where the outdoor spaces of the Butrimoniai Gymnasium have been created.
“To attract as many young people as possible, communication is a very effective way. My plans include various events, prizes, movie nights with overnight stays, training with lecturers. You can invite your friends to these activities,” Oksana shares her plans.
She was happy that there were also good experiences here – the activities held in this space and employment helped the young person to avoid mistakes. This is precisely why it motivates to continue planning various activities in the space, aimed at spending interesting and fun free time, communicating, getting to know each other, learning new things or even discovering yourself.
Oksana will work here on Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Fridays from 2:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., but priority will be given to adapting to the needs and wishes of young people.
The open space for youth was opened in 2014 during the implementation of the project “The basement of Butrimonių gymnasium – the center of youth attraction”. The premises in the basement of Butrimonių gymnasium were adapted to the needs of the community members: the walls, floor, ceiling were repainted on the initiative of the youth, sanitary facilities were installed, the necessary organizational equipment, board games were purchased. .
This space is for everyone aged 14-29. For young people of Alytus district. It is a center of attraction for meaningful free time, which promotes self-expression, independence and organization of young people, thus distracting from the threat of bad habits.
