/ world today news/ The proposals for deputy governors of the BNB by the new governor Dimitar Radev, with the old staff Kalin Hristov and Dimitar Kostov remaining, plus Nina Stoyanova, who is the Central Bank’s chief legal adviser, are not accidental.
I highly doubt that this choice is his and I suspect it is more the political forces behind it. And they, on the other hand, in this way test the reaction, tolerance and tolerance of the society.
The situation, without the figures being as shocking as they were then, looks to me like the election of an emblematic person from the Oresharsky government, which caused the protests.
I’m not exaggerating. But I watch with curiosity some people’s attempts to justify this choice with the need for continuity.
Continuity. Please? These same people, together with former governor Ivan Iskrov, bear the main responsibility and blame for the failure of the BNB as an institution in the KTB case. Because throughout the past year, when hundreds of people were driven to the point of despair and stress, and society to an unprecedented upheaval, they were somehow out of focus. What kind of continuity should we expect from specialists like Kalin Hristov, Dimitar Kostov, and even Nina Stoyanova as chief legal advisor, who slept through the failure of KTB and blocked people’s money. All three proposed as deputy governors are from the circle that made decisions last year, and the year before, and the year after that in this institution. So in this very tight circle they have encapsulated themselves to protect each other in extraordinary circumstances. Should we expect such continuity from them?
The new manager’s logic suggests that we should be satisfied with their work so far in order for them to continue in these positions of responsibility. But the public throughout the last year waited for them to answer painful questions and did not receive them, even as they hid from publicity or remained silent in front of the media cameras.
In this way, will they win the trust of the citizens in one of the oldest institutions in the country?
But the circumstances are more complicated. Because the law on paper gives the new governor of the BNB the opportunity to nominate the deputy governors to work with, but for me they are a projection of the political forces in the National Assembly that elected him. Outwardly, they look like the appointments, but not of Dimitar Radev. In this way, the system constantly generates problems, because the nominations do not come from the relevant professional community, but from the politicians.
When this professional community alone can raise or lower the confidence of its representatives, then it will be able to cleanse itself of those people who have damaged its prestige.
Precisely for this reason, at the moment, no one can say now who appointed Ivan Iskrov as the governor of the BNB and why he was elected once again. Everyone suddenly pulled away from him. But at the same time he fulfilled the order he was given – I am more and more convinced of that. They played theaters for a whole year and why? So that summer comes and politicians try to push through unpopular decisions again while people are on vacation and cannot react in time.
All responsibility for this election rests with the deputies. There are some disagreements and friction, but… that, I think, is theater. Although there is no one in society who believes them that “the turtle will fly” anymore. Judge their positions by the score.
And the events in Greece for the main personnel came as a reward. While we watch the fire at the neighbors, we do not see the beam in our own eye.
