Janusz Śniadek, PiS MP and former chairman of “Solidarity”, announces that the Sejm will receive an amendment to the act on Sunday trading ban. It is to clarify the principles of operation of postal points of contact which are excluded from this prohibition. More and more stores are using this exception.
Śniadek on the Internet program of the Money.pl portal pointed out that at the moment there is a green light to tighten the regulations and the Sejm will receive an amendment to the act on restricting trade on Sundays and holidays.
– It’s more a matter of days than weeks – Śniadek said – A definition of the predominant activity will be introduced – added.
Today, any store that has postal services can operate on a Sunday without restrictions, even if the revenues from these services are marginal. There will be a provision in the act that to to open a shop as a post office, the activity of this nature must prevail. The prevailing activity provision is included with some other exceptions to the ban on trade, including selling flowers, souvenirs, newspapers, public transport tickets or tobacco products.
Śniadek in an interview with Money.pl announced that there will also be an amendment clarification for small shopswhich can run on Sundays if the owner is behind the counter.
More and more stores operate on non-trading Sundays
The amendment demanded, among others, by “Solidarity” is the answer to the growing number of stores that operate on Sundays as post offices. Thanks to this, exceptional on the second day of the weekend are open facilities, incl. Żabki, Carrefour Express, Stokrotka Express, ABC, Groszek, Euro Sklep, Delikatesy Centrum, Chata Polska, and even some Polomarket outlets and most Intermarche supermarkets. They also gained the status of post offices all Kaufland storesbut for now they will not be open on Sundays (it is possible in the future).
