/ world today news/ “New Europe” is threatened with destruction, Euronews TV reports, referring to the second bridge on the Danube River connecting Bulgaria and Romania.
The recently discovered bridge was built with serious defects. The experts of the Bulgarian Ministry of Transport have found about 20 flaws that could cause the sudden collapse of the facility.
The construction of the bridge was completed in April 2013, and its official opening took place in June, “Euronews” also notes in its report, quoted by BGNES.
“Danube Bridge 2” is part of the Pan-European Transport Corridor No. 4 and is of key importance for the transport infrastructure of South-Eastern Europe. The bridge is 1,971 m long, includes two traffic lanes in each direction, a single electrified railway line and a bicycle lane. It connects the cities of Vidin and Calafat. Its full construction was seriously delayed, and it was finally opened before the surrounding infrastructure was fully built.
