Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – There have been cases of blood clots that have been linked to the use of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine. So what are the symptoms associated with this blood clot?
Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr. Rochelle Walensky describes symptoms including severe headaches, stomach pain, leg pain or shortness of breath. All symptoms lead to an emergency department visit.
“The important thing is we have two other vaccines that are allowed to be used in this country. Once again we do not see this incident with the other two vaccines with Pfizer and Moderna,” he explained, quoted from A.P. Saturday (17/4/2021).
Guidelines were issued for those who had been injected with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine by the CDC. Vaccine recipients more than a month ago are at very low risk.
Meanwhile, for those who have received it in the last few weeks, vaccine recipients should be aware of the symptoms. They are also expected to seek immediate medical help if symptoms notice.
But Rochelle added that in this group, the incidence of blood clots is very rare.
“But I want to repeat to this group even in this group that these events are very rare,” Rochelle said.
The finding of blood clotting cases has led a number of countries to ban the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. One of them is the US which has temporarily suspended its use in that country’s vaccination program.
The decision was announced in a joint statement with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the CDC. Both said that vaccine safety was the government’s top priority.
“The safety of the Covid-19 vaccine is a top priority for the federal government, and we take all reports of health problems following Covid-19 vaccination very seriously,” both agencies wrote in their statement.
Blood clots were found in six women aged 18-48 years. Symptoms continued to develop from six to 13 days after they had the J&J vaccine.
