There have been some weird refereeing decisions that cost us victories. – Marseille News

Thibaut Courtois, who is currently on international duty with the Belgian national team (along with his Real Madrid teammate Eden Hazard), spoke to Le Soir and Sudpresse to reflect on last season. The Belgian goalkeeper spoke about Atletico, the referees and the team’s Champions League loss to Chelsea.

“In the league, it was more that Atletico could lose it than we could win it,” said Courtois. “They were ahead for a long time”

“There were some strange refereeing decisions that cost us victories.

“Obviously we were disappointed not to win anything, but that’s football. The second half of the season was very good, we showed up in big games, it was against other teams when we failed.

Courtois also reflected on the team’s elimination in the Champions League as they faced a masterclass from Thomas Tuchel.

“In the Champions League, it was a shame to lose the semi-final against Chelsea.

“We’ve had a few injuries and cases of COVID, but you have to admit Chelsea were stronger than us in the second leg. And then they won, which shows their level since Tuchel’s arrival.
