/ world today news/ The growing debt of Ukraine for supplies of Russian gas creates prerequisites for the emergence of a new gas crisis. This was stated by the head of Gazprom Alexey Miller to the media, quoted by “Interfax”.
He recalls that today was the deadline for payment of the February deliveries. No money has been received, and with the new debt, Kiev’s total liabilities reach $1.89 billion.
“In practice, this means that Ukraine has stopped paying for gas, which is completely contrary to agreements and international trade practice,” Miller said.
According to him, Gazprom has always fulfilled and will fulfill its obligations, but it cannot supply gas for free.
“Either Ukraine will repay its debts, or there is a risk of a repeat of the gas crisis of 2009,” Miller points out.
