There comes the heat wave: ’37 degrees is quite possible ‘

In the southernmost province of our country, 37 degrees is possible just like that, but 40 degrees like last year, we cannot save that, says Brian Verhoeven of Buienradar. There are also stories going around that the coming heat wave could continue for a long time. Verhoeven does not yet agree with this. “The expectations for next week are still very uncertain.”

First heat wave in 1911

It is almost certain that there will be a heat wave. And that’s number 29 since it was tracked in 1901. The first was measured in 1911. The last few years have been going fast, because 2 heat waves were counted in both 2018 and 2019.

Back to next week. Because it doesn’t just get warm during the day. In the nights, the temperature drops to around 19 degrees. “It will be sweating,” says Verhoeven.

Windows open

This will not yet be the case next night. And that’s an opportunity. Verhoeven: “Now open your windows, because then it will still cool down. From tomorrow you may be able to put a fan in your bedroom with a bottle of water from the freezer in front of it. That helps a little.”

It is even better to keep the sun out. This works best with shutters, because they already block the sunlight outside your bedroom. Curtains get warm, and still heat the room.

Are you going to the beach? Then take into account high sun power. You can burn in no time these days. “So apply well. Because on the beach you burn even faster,” says Verhoeven.

Enjoy!

Enough to think about, but don’t forget to enjoy. Because hey: a sun and high temperatures in August: it could be less.
