The winners of the “Tramtatulis 2023” competition of Lithuanian children and schoolchildren – performers of Lithuanian folk art – have been revealed, who performed well in the Little Lithuania regional round and will represent Klaipėda district in the national round.
The 10th “Tramtatulis” competition of Lithuanian children and schoolchildren – performers of Lithuanian folk art – is dedicated to celebrating the 700th anniversary of Vilnius – the capital of the state of Lithuania. The competition encourages children and schoolchildren to be interested in the traditional culture of their region, to understand its value, and educates individual young performers of folk songs, spoken works, and instrumental music.
The laureates of the Klaipėda district in the circle of Little Lithuania were the 6-year-old singer Milda Virbauskaitė (Gargždų lopšelis-kindergarten “Saulutė”, teacher Greta Karnickė), the 14-year-old storyteller Augustas Mažonas (Dreverna branch of the Priekulė cultural center, teacher Virgina Asnauskienė) and the 10-year-old singer Noja Valaikaitė from Gargždai “Kranto” pro-gymnasium (teacher Vitalija Valaikė).
“I don’t even know how big my joy is… My sincere thanks not only to them, but also to all ten participants of the Klaipėda district, as well as to the 19 participants of the district circle and their teachers”, said Irena Barbšienė, head of the Education and Sports Department of the Klaipėda District Municipality Administration specialist, member of the evaluation commission of the Klaipėda district circle. The talented participants of the competition delighted with live performances of Lithuanian folk songs from different regions of Lithuania, traditional instrumental music, fairy tales, tales, and stories.
237 children and schoolchildren, who were prepared by 135 teachers, leaders of children’s and youth folklore ensembles, parents, grandparents, entered the national round of the competition.
The national round will be held on April 29-30. in Kaunas.
