There are still people missing after the train crash in Greece – Old Continent – The World – NOVA News

The investigation into the train accident that happened yesterday near Larissa in Greece continues. 44 people died and over 80 were injured. There were also Bulgarians among the passengers. They are not life-threatening. The consul of Bulgaria in Thessaloniki said that the two have been released for home treatment.

The question remains how many people are missing. Yesterday it was said about 10 people, but it may turn out to be about 40. This morning the bar car was moved, and the rescuers found many bodies under it.

Greece declared three days of mourning. The authorities arrested the head of the railway station in Larissa. He is accused of causing mass death by negligence. One of the main versions that the Greek authorities are working on is human error.

Demonstrators gathered last night for a protest in Athens outside the building of the railway company whose composition was involved in the tragic accident.

There have also been clashes between police and protesters. The police had to use tear gas against demonstrators who threw stones at the building of the private railway company. Most demonstrators are young people who want adequate and quick solutions from the authorities.

All trains on the routes of the main Greek railway company Hellenic Train will not run today after the Hellenic Federation of Railway Employees announced a 24-hour strike.

According to the Greek railway workers, the basis of the tragedy is the poor condition of the railway infrastructure in the country.

“Students have gathered here in front of the company’s offices with a lot of anger, shocked by what happened today, where so many lives and souls were lost,” said Kostas Demos, president of the student association.
