“There are still a few stories to tell”

The role of Obi-Wan Kenobi is still considered one of the highlights of Ewan McGregor’s career. No wonder he would like to play the Jedi master again.

Two years have now passed since “Obi-Wan Kenobi” reached and we Ewan McGregor 17 years after “Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith” was released, we once again saw the titular Jedi master. Since the series was released, the question has repeatedly been raised as to whether there will be a season 2 of “Obi-Wan Kenobi”, but fans – and McGregor, who has always hoped for a sequel – have been disappointed time and again.

In a new interview with Variety The actor looked back on his career on the occasion of the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame being dedicated to him on September 12, 2024. In addition to films such as “Trainspotting,” “Black Hawk Down” and “Moulin Rouge!”, his time on “Star Wars” was of course also mentioned. He still hopes to be able to slip into the role of Obi-Wan again, as he described as follows:

“I really hope we get the chance to do another season. Between the end of the series and the time when Alec Guinness [in ‚Star Wars: Episode 4 – Eine neue Hoffnung‘] with Luke Skywalker coming to the screen; there are still a few stories to be told, I think.”

The next “Star Wars” series we can look forward to is “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” which will launch on Disney+ on December 3, 2024. This trailer gives you a first glimpse:

Obi-Wan Kenobi gave Ewan McGregor particular pleasure

Alec Guiness starred as Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original trilogy. Without realising it, he set the bar pretty high for McGregor, who was naturally under immense pressure from the expectations placed on him at the time of Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace. So he first familiarised himself with other works by Guiness, as he described:

“I loved getting to know Alec Guinness’ work more than anything else because I played him as a young man. Even in [‚Obi-Wan Kenobi‘] That was my personal challenge – if a scene feels a bit like him, I’m happy.”

His acting colleague and Anakin Skywalker actor also shares the hope of being able to face this challenge again Hayden Christensen. In the same Variety interview, he addressed a “Star Wars” return in a potential season 2 of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” as follows:

“If that means I get to do more with Ewan, then that’s a no-brainer. I really hope he gets to continue with the role. Especially as a fan, it’s so exciting to see him play Obi-Wan – he’s just so good at it.”

However, Christensen’s sentimental words did not stop there:

“The first time I met Ewan was in Australia. I remember going to make-up and he came over and gave me a big hug. I knew immediately that I was looking at a friend. He really took me under his wing. It’s easy to get caught up in the technical aspects of filmmaking. But he always brought me back to the emotional aspect of what we were doing.”

Christensen has already been announced as a speaker at McGregor’s Walk of Fame star ceremony, so more warm and laudatory words are to come soon.

While we continue to wait and see if “Obi-Wan Kenobi” will be continued for another season and if we will see McGregor and Christensen again in their “Star Wars” roles, you can stream “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and all other works from the world of “Star Wars” with a membership on Disney+.
