VIVA – A life form has created a chemical reaction. Planets Venus may harbor life forms in its clouds that produce ammonia that was detected in the 1970s, according to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences hypothesis.
The detected ammonia should not be produced normally. In their new study it is mentioned that the researchers modeled a series of chemical processes.
If ammonia is present then the gas will trigger a cascade of chemical reactions that neutralize the surrounding sulfuric acid droplets.
An increase in ammonia over time will change the cloud’s pH from approximately minus 11 to 0. Less acidic clouds will then fall within the tolerable acidity range.
Some forms of life in Earth produce ammonia in this way to neutralize and make the highly acidic environment habitable for humans, according to the page Express, Tuesday, December 21, 2021.
Study author William Bains said that life could thrive in the acidic environment on Earth. However, no such acid is believed to be present in the Venusian clouds.
“But if there’s something that keeps ammonia in the clouds, then that will neutralize some of the droplets, making them potentially more habitable,” he said.
