There are now more than 20 hospital admissions on average per day

Between July 9 and July 15, there were an average of 20.3 hospital admissions per day due to coronavirus, an increase of 14% from the previous reporting period, according to the latest figures from the ‘Sciensano Public Health Institute updated Friday morning.

In total, 253 people are still hospitalized due to Covid-19, including 86 patients treated in intensive care.

Between July 6 and July 12, 1,175 new Sars-CoV-2 contaminations were detected on average per day, an increase of 86% compared to the previous week.

Over the same period, an average of 1.7 people died per day from the virus (-48%), bringing the toll to more than 25,200 deaths since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.

Nearly 61,700 tests on average were also performed daily, for a positivity rate of 2%.

The virus’s reproduction rate is 1.17. When it is greater than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic is tending to accelerate. The incidence, which indicates the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 110.2 over 14 days.

Finally, 82% of the adult population received at least one dose of vaccine, and 56.1% received both doses.
