There are no registered cases of bird flu on the territory of Burgas region. This was stated at a meeting of the Regional Epizootic Commission by the director of the Regional Directorate for Food Safety (ODBH), Dr. Dimitar Germanov.
The disease, also known as avian flu, has been detected in the country and the executive director of the BABH has given instructions to mark specific measures by region in connection with the worsening epizootic situation in the country regarding the avian influenza disease.
Control authorities stressed that all products in the commercial network are under strict control and are safe. The regional governor Prof. Maria Neikova called for increased control, monitoring and good coordination between institutions in order to minimize the probability of the appearance and spread of the infectious disease among birds.
The Commission decided to implement preventive measures in the Burgas region with the aim of preventing and limiting the infectious disease among birds, by carrying out joint inspections by the employees of the ODBH with representatives of RIOSV-Burgas, the ornithological societies, the hunting and fishing societies and the state forestry and hunting farms for the presence of sick or dead wild migratory or synanthropic birds.
It is prohibited to keep birds outdoors in yards, with the exception of birds in poultry facilities. Absolute institutional control over poultry farming will be implemented.
The mayors and deputy mayors will register the birds being raised by ordering the owners of poultry facilities: not to allow the birds to leave the owners’ yards; to prevent contact between birds living in the wild and domestic birds; to store in closed rooms the feed with which the birds are fed; to create conditions for separate rearing of poultry and geese from other poultry; to immediately notify the veterinarian inspecting the site or the mayor of the settlement in case of a deviation in the health status of the reared birds or in case of increased mortality.
The mayors of the respective municipalities must provide the summary information in writing to the official veterinarians.
The mayors and deputy mayors, together with the official veterinarians, will conduct an information campaign for poultry owners about the clinical signs of the disease and compliance with biosecurity measures.
The ODBH also announced that vaccination against rabies for foxes and jackals will soon begin, which will be carried out by airplanes. The territories that will be covered are the municipalities of Tsarevo, Primorsko, Malko Tarnovo and Sredets in the direction of Haskovo. It is absolutely safe for pets, assured the ODBH.
