“There are no moves”: Ulm dissatisfied with record man Fink

After the 1-0 win over Offenbach, SSV Ulm 1846 celebrated Christmas as the front runner in the southwest. However, not everything that glitters on the Danube is gold.

Room for improvement: Anton Fink doesn’t really get going in Ulm.

The hard-fought 1-0 win against Offenbacher Kickers at the end of 2021 showed two things: SSV has it, but also has to make a huge effort. “We have put ourselves in a good starting position,” says Thomas Wörle. With a view to the competition, however, the coach also believes: “No one will slack off.”

So the senses in Ulm are sharpened, and it was and is still topped up as far as the squad is concerned. The promising striker Simon Klostermann (21) came from TSG Balingen, and the search is on for another attacking man.

After the injuries of the strikers Tobias Rühle (torn cruciate ligament) and Ardian Morina (due to knee problems there is a risk of sports disability), there is also a need for action. Especially since there is a well-known problem child: Anton Fink, who came in the summer of 2020 as a supposed “king transfer”, did not meet the expectations either under Wörle or under predecessor Holger Bachthaler. In the current season, the 34-year-old from Dachau, who leads the all-time top scorer list by a wide margin in the 3rd division, has yet to score in eight league appearances succeded.

“We expected a lot more from him”

“We hoped for a lot more from him when we urgently needed him after Ruhle’s injury. There wasn’t enough,” said managing director Markus Thiele. He spoke to Fink about terminating the contract that runs until the summer, “but there are no signs of him leaving early,” says Thiele.

Ex-coach Bachthaler is also still on the payroll. Thiele warns: “We have to look closely at the money.” After all: Since the beginning of the season, the SSV, which will start again on February 19 at FC Rot-Weiss Koblenz, has gained 21 new partners and sponsors.
