There are more and more “self-walking” dogs – Danube Bend Region

Márton Nyíri, the deputy mayor of Dunakeszi responsible for environmental protection, drew attention to a new and increasingly common phenomenon, the dangers of “self-walking” dogs, in his statement to our newspaper.

As he writes: “It is well known that our municipality maintains excellent cooperation with several dog organizations. Among these, I would highlight the Dunakeszi Civils for Animals team and the ZöldEb Dog Protection Association. Based on their signal, we know that recently a strange phenomenon has taken hold in the city and in our area. This is the case of “self-walking” dogs, that is, the phenomenon that some people try to “get away” with walking by simply letting the dogs out into the street. Recently, the volunteers accompanied 29 such dogs home.

I would like to draw your attention to the fact that such a procedure is completely illegal and dangerous.

Anyone who lets the dog out on public land without a leash or leaves it unattended commits a violation of the law. Dogs must be walked on a leash in public areas of the interior – with the exception of areas specifically designated for dog walking. Only a person who is able to control, handle and restrain the vehicle may drive it in public areas. In public areas, the owner of the pet must ensure that the pet cannot endanger other animals or people. It is also the duty of the owner to remove the pollution caused by the dog, if he fails to do so, he also commits an offence. In addition to the fact that the public area supervision can impose a fine for these – the owner of the dog also bears the criminal consequences for possible accidents caused by an unattended dog. Please, owners take all these into account! – suggests deputy mayor Márton Nyíri.
